Getting Your Paper Topic Right
When your paper topic is good enough to be called a 'diversity' paper, the best way to write it is to think about what you do not know. What topics are there about that you do not know about?
These are not only topics that you can write about but also topics that the whole class can learn from. They could even have practical applications to your particular field of interest.
It may sound a bit like this, but these ideas must go beyond merely learning something about yourself and your work in order to be valuable. They must also go beyond just explaining your own views on a particular topic. Instead they should involve the students in answering questions and providing ideas for the rest of the class. While it is easy to get caught up in discussing your own experiences with a subject, one of the main challenges is that you have to put yourself in the shoes of others.
You can do this by approaching each student and asking them to express an opinion on a specific issue, perhaps a word salad for instance.
